Know which schools use which products.

Almanac records the named reading, maths and intervention products that each English state school uses. We read each school’s own public website and its pupil premium statement. Every record links to its source.

01 — How it works

One record for each school, from public sources.

We cover every open state-funded mainstream school in England. That is about 20,000 schools. For each school, we record the products that it names in public.

  1. We read the school’s website

We visit the school’s own public website and read its pages about the curriculum, reading, maths and phonics.

  2. We read the pupil premium statement

Each school publishes this statement every year on a DfE template. The template has a table of externally provided programmes.

  3. We record each mention

A mention is one record that a school names a product. It has the source link, the date and a short note in our own words.

Confidence

  • High

An explicit statement of use, a row in the pupil premium table, or a pupil login link.

  • Medium

The school names the product on a curriculum page as part of teaching.

  • Low

A recommendation list, a news item or an ambiguous name.

02 — What you get

For vendors of school products.

Almanac is for companies that sell reading, maths and intervention products to English state schools. It gives founders, chief executives and sales directors a clear view of the market.

Competitor school lists

Named schools that use a competitor’s product, with trust, local authority, pupil numbers and pupil premium share.

Market share

Your share and your competitors’ share of schools, by local authority and by trust.

Termly alerts

Schools that adopted or dropped a product since the last census.

Schools refresh pupil premium statements each December, so many renewals and switches show at that time.

03 — Categories

Our first categories.

A category is a group of products that compete with each other. We start with seven.

  • 06Social, emotional and mental health (SEMH)

04 — How we work

Public sources. No personal data.

We record facts about schools as organisations. Every record shows where it came from.

  • Organisation-level facts only

We record which products a school names. We do not record facts about people.

  • No personal data

We do not record the names of staff or governors.

  • Every record links to its source

Each mention links to the public page or document where the school names the product.

  • We do not republish documents

We write a short note in our own words and link to the original.

There is no single database for UK EdTech companies or how schools use technology.
